The event kicks off on Wednesday evening with a networking mixer from 6-8 pm, where you can hear from AECOM staff about various projects, career paths, and the company itself. You’ll also have the chance to meet other students, recent graduates, and AECOM professionals from across our business lines.
On Thursday, interviews will take place at our Philadelphia office. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about and connect with AECOM for early career opportunities.
AECOM is seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineering Intern to join the A/E Department of the Philadelphia, PA office for a summer internship experience. AECOM is searching for candidates that can be creative and impactful on a wide range of projects, by working both independently and with other structural staff on aviation facilities, transit stations and facilities, freight rail facilities, ancillary buildings related to roadway projects, and commercial buildings.
As a Structural Engineering Intern, you will work with multi-discipline project teams in developing a range of engineering solutions from initial concepts to detailed design development and through construction. This is a diverse role that will involve your contributions and insight to the effective delivery of the A/E Department’s portfolio of projects.
This position is expected to begin in Summer 2027.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Undertake design and planning tasks for various structural elements relating to the design, rehabilitation, and construction of structures, including structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, light gauge steel, deep and shallow foundations, and site structures.

• Prepare structural designs utilizing hand calculations, Excel workbooks, and advanced structural analysis software to determine applied loading, demand requirements, and appropriate foundation and member specifications.

• Develop structural design documentation (3D models, plans, sketches, and details) using Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam Revu.

• Review construction submittals and RFI’s towards the development of detailed, timely responses.

• Collaborate with other in-house engineering disciplines for coordinated technical solutions.

• Perform condition assessments and site visits as needed and prepare written reports.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:

• Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering with Structural Engineering concentration or another related field and must have completed at least 1 year of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.

• Some production software experience including but not limited to: Revit, AutoCAD, MS Office, Bluebeam Revu.

• Previous 1-2 cycles of relevant internship experience in the execution of structural design projects is a plus.

• This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Philadelphia, PA. The selected candidate must be available to work in Philadelphia, PA on a scheduled basis.
