AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Director – Multi-Disciplinary Design to provide strategic, technical, operational, and commercial leadership across our design business in Ireland. The role can be based in one of our offices in Dublin, Belfast, Cork, or Galway.
What You’ll Do
AECOM is seeking an accomplished and commercially focused Senior Technical Director – Multi-Disciplinary Design to provide leadership across major projects, clients, and multidisciplinary teams.
This is a senior regional leadership role with responsibility for technical excellence, client relationships, business development, project delivery, team performance, and financial performance, including oversight of budgets, revenue generation, and profitable growth.
The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership across multidisciplinary design teams, bringing together civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, architectural, environmental, and specialist disciplines to deliver integrated solutions for complex projects.
As a senior leader within AECOM, you will play a key role in shaping the growth and development of the design business. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining senior client relationships, identifying and converting market opportunities, leading strategic pursuits, and ensuring the successful delivery of a portfolio of projects.
You will have accountability for budget and revenue performance, working closely with business leaders and project directors to establish financial targets, monitor performance, manage risk, and deliver sustainable and profitable growth.
The role requires an individual with strong commercial acumen, strategic thinking, technical credibility, and proven leadership capability. You will be expected to operate confidently at senior client and executive level, influence across the organisation, and lead high-performing multidisciplinary teams.
You will also champion innovation and digital transformation, including the effective application of BIM, digital engineering, automation, and AI, to improve project outcomes, enhance productivity, and create additional value for clients.
Key Responsibilities

• Provide senior leadership for multidisciplinary design teams and major projects across the region.

• Establish and execute strategic plans to support the growth of AECOM’s design business and market position.

• Hold accountability for budget, revenue, utilisation, profitability, and financial performance within the assigned portfolio or business area.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients, stakeholders, partners, and industry leaders.

• Identify, develop, and convert strategic business opportunities, supporting sustainable revenue growth.

• Lead major pursuits, capture strategies, bids, and client presentations, working collaboratively with sector and business line leadership.

• Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities aligned with AECOM’s strategic objectives.

• Provide executive-level oversight of project delivery, ensuring projects are delivered safely, to programme, budget, scope, quality, and client expectations.

• Provide strategic oversight of multidisciplinary design integration across civil, structural, architectural, MEP, environmental, and specialist disciplines.

• Act as a senior technical and client-facing representative for AECOM on major projects and strategic accounts.

• Provide oversight of technical quality, design governance, risk management, and compliance with relevant standards and client requirements.

• Lead senior-level design reviews, technical assurance, value engineering, risk workshops, and project governance activities.

• Work closely with Project Directors and Business Line Leaders to identify and manage commercial, technical, and delivery risks.

• Build, develop, and retain high-performing multidisciplinary teams, creating a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and technical excellence.

• Mentor and develop Technical Directors, Project Directors, discipline leads, and emerging senior professionals.

• Support workforce planning, succession planning, recruitment, and development of key technical and leadership capability.

• Drive operational improvements and promote consistent approaches to project delivery, resource management, and financial performance.

• Champion digital engineering, BIM, automation, and AI-enabled solutions to improve efficiency, quality, and client outcomes.

• Represent AECOM at industry forums, client events, and professional organisations, enhancing the company’s profile and market position.

• Collaborate with regional, national, and global AECOM leadership to leverage technical expertise, sector capability, and international resources.
