We partner across OpenAI to build foundational audience understanding, shape marketing strategy, inform thought leadership, and measure performance.
About the Role
As Market Research Lead, ChatGPT you will help shape our Insights & Analytics strategy and set research direction for a major business area or cross-functional initiative. As a senior individual contributor, you will independently define and lead multiple complex research workstreams, connecting audience behavior, perceptions, and feedback to decisions across product, brand, and growth.
You will anticipate emerging business questions, bring structure to ambiguous challenges, and translate research into recommendations that influence senior leadership. Alongside delivering hands-on research, you will establish methodological standards, develop foundational research frameworks, and mentor experienced peers.
In this role, you will:
- Set research strategy, priorities, and goals for a major business area, aligning the research agenda with critical decisions and anticipating future needs.
- Independently define, prioritize, and lead multiple complex quantitative and qualitative research workstreams, balancing business impact, rigor, speed, and resources.
- Serve as a strategic partner to brand, product marketing, creative, product, and other teams, helping shape business strategy and goals through insights.
- Address challenges such as reaching new audiences, evolving our brand, positioning our product suite, and improving experiences.
- Connect primary research with behavioral data and other evidence, partnering with analytics colleagues to build a holistic understanding of our audiences.
- Translate complex findings into clear narratives and actionable recommendations that influence senior leaders and align stakeholders around decisions.
- Set technical and quality standards for research design, execution, analysis, and interpretation, including work delivered by agencies and vendors.
- Develop reusable frameworks and foundational research that strengthen the team’s ability to answer complex questions over time.
You might thrive in this role if you have:
- 12+ years of experience in mixed-method market research and data analysis, with deep expertise in quantitative and qualitative methods.
- A track record of setting research strategy and independently leading multiple complex workstreams across a substantial business area or cross-functional initiative.
- Strong judgment in ambiguous situations, including identifying the right questions, prioritizing competing needs, and choosing methods that support consequential decisions.
- Hands-on expertise across the full research lifecycle, including instrument design, sampling, weighting, statistical analysis, and reporting.
- Demonstrated success synthesizing evidence from multiple sources into recommendations that influence senior leadership and marketing, product, or business strategy.
- Experience spanning product or go-to-market research, positioning and messaging, brand strategy, campaign development, and tracking.
- Experience conducting global research and managing agencies or vendors to deliver high-quality outcomes.
- Experience establishing research standards, developing reusable frameworks, and mentoring experienced researchers or cross-functional peers.
- Proficiency with statistical analysis and survey programming.
- Excited to make AI part of how you work—actively experimenting with new tools and finding practical ways to improve the quality, speed, and impact of your work
