Job Description
We are the Unified Employee Experience (UEX) team at ServiceNow, also known as EmployeeWorks. We build Employee Slate, our conversation first employee experience, along with Employee Center and Employee Center Pro. Employees at some of the largest enterprises in the world use what we build to find answers and get work done, on web and on mobile. The experience is AI first, so the front end platform has to be fast, consistent, and extensible enough that every team building on it moves quickly.
This is a front end architecture role. You will own the architecture of the front end platform and the framework that feature teams across the organization build on, and you will own the performance of the experience end to end. We are looking for someone who has built and owned a front end platform at scale, not just features on top of one.
What you get to do in this role:

• Own the architecture, technical direction, and roadmap of our front end platform and the framework it exposes to other engineering teams

• Architect modular, reusable component systems built for extensibility, versioning, and adoption across many teams at once

• Own front end performance end to end and hold the platform to it as the product and the customer base grow

• Drive complex, multi team technical initiatives and resolve architectural conflicts without management escalation

• Lead architecture and code reviews, mentor senior engineers, and raise the front end bar across the organization

• Act as the technical escalation point for the hardest production problems in the front end

• Bring judgment on where AI belongs in the engineering workflow, and set the guardrails for AI assisted development

• Partner with product and design early enough to shape what gets built, not just how it gets built

Qualifications
• Experience in leveraging or critically thinking about how to integrate AI into work processes, decision-making, or problem-solving. This may include using AI-powered tools, automating workflows, analyzing AI-driven insights, or exploring AI's potential impact on the function or industry.

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with the majority of it building web front ends and front end platforms

• Deep expertise in JavaScript and TypeScript, along with advanced knowledge of data structures, algorithms, object oriented design, and design patterns

• Advanced experience with modern component based UI frameworks and web components, such as Lit, React, Angular, or Vue

• Proven track record designing framework level abstractions that many other engineering teams build on

• Deep front end performance experience, including profiling, diagnosing, and fixing performance problems in production at scale

• Demonstrated experience as a Staff or Principal engineer or equivalent senior individual contributor accountable for architecture and technical direction, with a track record leading months long initiatives across team boundaries

• Working proficiency in a server side language such as Java, Node.js, Python, or Go

• Exposure to building front ends on top of AI or LLM driven capabilities

• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex architecture clearly to engineers, product managers, and senior leadership

• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent technical field, or equivalent practical experience
Preferred

• Experience with design systems or component libraries adopted across multiple organizations

• Experience with front end observability and real user performance monitoring

• Familiarity with large scale, multi tenant SaaS platforms
