Job Description
Get to Know the Team
The Country Finance team is instrumental to Grab's success, overseeing financial planning, risk management, record-keeping, and reporting. The team fosters a collaborative culture, encouraging idea-sharing and learning while maintaining a emphasis on work-life balance. Our strategic efforts directly contribute to Grab's financial stability and growth, ensuring compliance and transparency with all internal and external partners. Overall, the Finance team drives Grab's innovation and success.
Get to Know the Role
We are looking for an experienced controllership professional with a deep insurance accounting, audit, and regulatory reporting expertise to join our Controllership team in Malaysia. This is a broad, multi-entity role covering regional controllership for a portfolio of regional entities alongside end-to-end controllership for our insurance and training entities in Singapore and Malaysia. Beyond these entities, you will be the adviser to the wider regional insurance business on accounting, reporting, and regulatory matters.
You will own the integrity of the financial records and regulatory submissions for the entities in scope, act as the technical accounting reference point on insurance matters across the region, and partner closely with the insurance business, actuarial, regulatory compliance, and country.
You will be reporting to the Manager, Finance Controllership and be base at our Malaysia office in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• Entity and Regional Controllership: Own the month-end and year-end close for the entities in scope (Regional operations entities, Singapore and Malaysia insurance and training entities), ensuring accounting records are complete, accurate, and delivered to Group timelines. Prepare and review statutory financial statements under applicable reporting frameworks, and manage the relationship with external auditors through to sign-off. Maintain a robust control environment across the entities, including balance sheet reviews, reconciliations, and intercompany positions.

• Insurance Accounting and Technical Reporting: Act as the subject matter expert on insurance accounting, including premium and claims recognition, reinsurance arrangements, acquisition costs, and insurance contract liabilities. Work with actuarial and business teams to translate reserving and valuation outputs into the financial statements, and challenge inputs. Assess and document the accounting treatment of new insurance products, distribution arrangements, and corporate transactions.

• Regulatory Reporting and Compliance: Oversee the preparation and submission of insurance regulatory returns and statutory filings on time in Singapore and Malaysia. Monitor solvency and capital adequacy positions, and flag latest issues to management early. Stay informed about regulatory and accounting developments affecting the insurance entities, and lead the assessment and implementation of any resulting changes.

• Regional Insurance Advisory: Act as the regional finance adviser to the insurance business and country finance teams in markets without a dedicated insurance entity. Advise those markets on reporting requirements, local regulatory considerations, and the finance implications of distribution partnerships and market launches. Provide a consistent regional view on insurance accounting policy, and act as the escalation point for country teams on technical insurance questions. Support the finance process on new market entry or new insurance propositions, including the setup of reporting and control processes.

• Financial Advisory and Business Partnering: Provide advice on both business-as-usual and new business activities, focusing on the financial, regulatory, and capital implications. Collaborate with insurance business leads, regional finance, tax, treasury, and legal to deliver insights that support strategic decision-making.

• Risk Management and Process Optimisation: Offer guidance to other departments to improve and mitigate business risks. Strengthen processes and controls as the insurance business scales, driving simplification and automation.

• Leadership and Development: Foster a culture of ethical practice and continuous improvement to ensure accurate and consistent accounting activities. Guide and train team members and country finance counterparts to align capability with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.

• Ad-hoc Responsibilities: Adapt to dynamic business needs and contribute to special projects, system implementations, and entity or structural changes.
