About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned Manager, Software Engineering with 12+ years of experience to lead our Database Engineering and Cloud Infrastructure team. In this role, you will lead a team of high-performing engineers responsible for architecting, scaling, and optimizing multi-cloud relational and in-memory database platforms. You will bridge technical execution, engineering leadership, and strategic infrastructure planning across AWS and Azure environments.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Architecture

• Lead the architectural design and operations of enterprise-grade, multi-cloud relational databases across AWS (RDS PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora) and Azure (Database for PostgreSQL/MySQL, Azure SQL Managed Instance).

• Drive high-availability architecture strategies, including Multi-AZ deployments, auto-failover groups, read replica scaling, and cross-region disaster recovery (DR).

• Oversee zero-downtime operations, including major-version engine upgrades, schema migrations, and blue/green deployment strategies.

In-Memory Infrastructure & Open-Source Strategy

• Manage scale operations for in-memory datastores (AWS ElastiCache, Azure Cache for Redis), focusing on cluster mode operations, eviction policies, and persistence tuning.

• Spearhead open-source caching initiatives and migration pathways from Redis to Valkey (e.g., AWS ElastiCache for Valkey) using zero-downtime tools like RedisShake to ensure open-source license compliance and optimize cloud spend.

Automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & DevOps

• Enforce an IaC-first engineering culture using Terraform, OpenTofu, Bicep, or CloudFormation to eliminate manual configuration and console drift.

• Drive automated database provisioning, drift detection, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for database schemas using tools like Flyway or Liquibase.

FinOps & Performance Optimization

• Partner with Finance and DevOps to drive FinOps practices: conduct cost allocation, rightsizing exercises, and reserved instance / savings plan management.

• Evaluate and implement optimal architectural tradeoffs between serverless and provisioned computing models (e.g., Aurora Serverless v2, Azure SQL Serverless).

• Monitor performance using AWS Performance Insights and Azure Diagnostics to optimize query performance, indexing, and resource usage.

Team Management & Operational Excellence

• Manage, mentor, and grow a team of senior database and cloud infrastructure engineers.

• Set operational standards, service level objectives (SLOs), and incident management practices for database availability, security, and scalability.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 12+ years of total software engineering / infrastructure experience, with at least 3–5 years in an engineering management or technical leadership role focused on cloud databases.

• Multi-Cloud Mastery: Deep hands-on experience operating managed relational databases in both AWS and Azure environments at enterprise scale.

• In-Memory & Valkey Ecosystem: Proven track record managing Redis clusters and navigating Redis-to-Valkey migration strategies to reduce operational overhead and licensing costs.

• Automation & IaC: Mastery of Infrastructure as Code principles (Terraform, OpenTofu, Bicep, or CloudFormation) and database migration tooling (Flyway, Liquibase).

• FinOps Expertise: Demonstrated ability to optimize multi-cloud infrastructure costs, manage serverless vs. provisioned workloads, and deliver measurable cloud cost savings (20–30%+).

• Operations & Resiliency: Direct experience implementing automated backups, zero-downtime blue/green deployments, major version upgrades, and multi-region disaster recovery.
