The Opportunity

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will take meaningful ownership of the software you build. You will bring deep technical expertise to a highly skilled team solving real problems at enterprise scale. As an experienced engineer, you’ll be equipped with cutting-edge AI tooling to design and deliver features of real sophistication, shape team-level engineering practices, and deepen your expertise while ensuring flawless Enterprise-Grade Orchestration.

What You’ll Do

• Develop Clean Software: Architect, build, and optimize core platform features while maintaining a strong personal technical presence on the team.

• Engineer with AI: Use AI coding tools fluently as a force multiplier: generating, reviewing, and critically evaluating AI-assisted code to ship faster without compromising quality or correctness.

• Lead Architecture & Delivery: Drive technical story breakdowns, acceptance criteria, and architectural design across complex, multi-tier application layers — from feature scoping through implementation.

• Elevate Engineering Standards: Influence team practices through thorough code reviews, robust automated testing, mentorship of junior developers, and high-quality contributions to Appian's internal technical documentation.

• Resolve Emergent Problems: Respond to and resolve emergent platform issues, writing software and building automation frameworks to prevent problem recurrence.

• Collaborate in Agile Cycles: Utilize Git for version control while operating in a fast-paced, highly collaborative Agile development team environment.

Required Qualifications

• Education: Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a related technical/analytical discipline. (Equivalent experience is not accepted in lieu of a degree).

• Experience: 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a BS (or 1+ years of experience paired with a Master of Science in Computer Science or a related field).

• Technical Proficiency: Expert coding, scripting, and debugging proficiency in one or more core enterprise programming languages.

• Domain Expertise: Solid technical domain expertise with the ability to contribute meaningfully at a senior individual contributor level.

• AI-Augmented Development: Demonstrated experience using AI coding assistants and a strong ability to evaluate, coach others on, and selectively apply AI-generated code in a production engineering context.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing, operating, and cloud-provisioning services on infrastructure environments like AWS, Azure, and/or GCP.

• We value experience with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce or ServiceNow, as these skills translate well into our Enterprise-Grade Orchestration environment.
